The 2025/26 Schedule

September 2025

The Rolling Stones & 1967

Monday 29th September

1967 is a fulcrum year in the history of rock and pop. It’s also the year that the Stones almost came undone. We’ll trace how pop became art and how just another showbiz soap opera became The Greatest Rock’n’Roll Band In the World.

October 2025

Tunes At An Exhibition: Music in the Museums of London

Monday 27th October

From The British Museum to the National Gallery, we’re off on a guided tour of London’s exhibition spaces tailored for music fans. We’ll also look at a few dedicated music museums further afield.

November 2025

Myths and Legends: The Business of Not Letting The Truth Get In The Way Of A Good Story

Monday 24th November

King Henry VIII wrote Greensleeves… Tchaikovsky was murdered because he was gay… Paul McCartney is dead and always has been… Judy Garland was born in a trunk in the Princes Theatre in Pochatela, Idaho… Listening to Mozart, the composer who was definitely murdered by Salieri, in the womb will make you a genius in later life.

The blurred lines between mythology and truth in the history of music.

December 2025

It’s Christmastime…. The Story of Live Aid.

Monday 29th December

From a terraced house in Chelsea to the world via Wembley & Philadelphia, the story of Live Aid in its 40th anniversary year. Along the way we’ll also look at other fund-raising musical endeavours. Thanks to club member Elke for the suggestion.

January 2026

The Piccadilly Line

Monday 26th January

Heathrow to Leicester Square: A musical history journey from the airport to the West End along the Piccadilly Line.

March 2026

Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?

Monday 30th March

You know the concept: who would you invite to your fantasy dinner party?

12th century composer and polymath Hildegard Von Bingen is hosting a dinner party. John Lennon is invited. But who else is coming to dinner? Drop me a line with your fantasy musical dinner party guests. Thanks to club member Ian for the suggestion.
