Oasis, Amy, Punk & More – A Rock & Pop Odyssey Through Camden Town

March 2024 Adam writesThis tour is new to the London Music Tours schedule. But such is the interest in Camden Town and its music history, I’ve been running private versions of this walk for years.

I’m very excited to finally be bringing it to the regular scheduled programme. Scroll down for a description, booking and also a few words about the time slot. Looking forward to seeing you in Camden Town soon!

ALL Music Is here

Pop your head out of Camden Town tube station on any given Sunday and you’ll be treated to a veritable Bayeaux Tapestry of pop culture tribes. From Goths to Mods and beyond. All pop culture is here.

Such is Camden’s association with pop and rock music that it is the home to London’s first Walk Of Fame. The English rock’n’roll version of Hollywood’s sidewalk star commemorations now include commemorations to The Who, Soul2Soul, Madness and Billy Bragg. We’ll trace its part of its route on this tour. (Keep an eye on all upcoming Walk of Fame activity by clicking HERE.)

The Playlist

The music at hand… Punk will clamour and spit for our attention – The Clash rehearsed at what is now Stables Market. The brash laddishness of the 90s Britpop bands will make itself heard. And of course we’ll meet the much-missed Amy Winehouse who lived and died right here in Camden.

Changing Face Of Camden

As usual with a London Music Tour, we always look beyond the music. We’ll take a look at the changing face of Camden Market, a magnet for visitors from all over the world. And we’ll consider the way Londoners live and play in Camden Town today. In addition, Camden’s industrial past looms large in the area’s history and we’ll deal with that, too.

And at tour’s end? Well then we’ll be right in the heart of Camden Town, well-placed to visit the markets and record shops that we’ve location along the way.

It’s All In The Timing

Lastly, you will notice we’re experimenting with a super-early start time for the Camden tour – 9 a.m. We’re doing this for a number or reasons.

Camden, as I’m sure you know, is one of the most popular destinations in London, especially at the weekend. The thinking behind the start time of 9am is that we’ll get a little bit of peace-and-quiet to get a good look at everything we need to see. What’s more, by the time we’re finished, the market will just be hotting up and all the record shops will be opening. So you’ll get a good tour and the benefit of the Camden atmosphere at tour’s end. Best of both worlds! Furthermore, if you’ve enjoyed your morning you can always join a second London Music Tour in the afternoon!

If you’re booking a private tour, these can, of course, be scheduled for any time of the day or night. As usual, use the form at the bottom of this page to book.

Alcohol, drug misuse and death through substance-abuse all feature on this walking tour.
