The Rolling Stones in 1969

Last year on The Monday Night Music History Club we followed the Stones in 1967, from Morocco to Chichester Magistrates Court to Wormwood Scrubs*. A rock’n’roll annus horribilis unmatched in the story of rock and pop to this point. Surely things can only get better for the World’s Greatest Rock’n’Roll Band…
We’ll pick up our heroes in late ’68, at a childish, seemingly innocuous custard pie fight in South Kensington. By the end of 1969, The Stones’ inner circle will have been rocked by two deaths – one of them a murder, the other surrounded in conspiracy. There’s more trouble with the long arm of the law and a miscarriage and a suicide attempt.
In the mix we’ll also find two of their greatest albums: Beggar’s Banquet and Let It Bleed. We’ll end in December 1969 when the Stones closed the Saville Theatre, barely a week after bringing the curtain down on the 1960s with their infamous gig at Altamont.
