Adam writes… As the days lengthen, so too does the London Music Tours programme start to grow. In May I’m proud to present an even-dozen walking tours for you to choose from. This month Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, David Bowie and The Rolling Stones – have all got their own dedicated tours.
I’m often asked about these band-specific tours: do we need to be big fans to enjoy them? Well I aim to make all of my tours as inclusive as possible, so you can always ask questions (I’m quite approachable!). Even if you’re not a big fan of the bands to which the tours are dedicated, I really think the routes are interesting enough to capture everyone’s interest – and on my tours I always go a bit beyond the music into architecture and social history, too.
The Rock’n’Roll Explorer Day makes its first appearance of 2025 this month. It’s a full day tour exploring the rich musical heritage of south west London. It was a great success in 2024, selling out every outing, and I’m looking forward to exploring those neighbourhoods with you again.
Tim G joined the Rock’n’Roll Explorer Day last October and left a ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review:
“This is a corker of a day! Fun and interesting from start to finish and Adam is a mine of musical knowledge and rock history which neatly draws together all the aspects of the whole tour. It is well researched, well coordinated and very enjoyable. The other walkers were also absorbed in the stories of the musical legends whose lives we learned about. Five stars from me and this is highly recommended!!”
(If, like Tim, you have enjoyed a London Music Tour you can leave a review on Google.)
As usual, private tours are always available. Why not go bespoke? Drop me a line using the form at the bottom of this page.
See you out there!
All best
Adam

This Month’s Playlist
May is Eurovision month (for better or for worse) so this month’s playlist takes us back to 1963 when the famous song contest was held right here in London – at BBC TV Centre. Entrants include Françoise Hardy and Nana Mouskouri. Cast your votes here…

Plaque Of The Month
Screaming Lord Sutch on the North Circular…

David Sutch (1940 – 1999) – the self-styled Screaming Lord Sutch, 3rd Earl of Harrow – was leader of the Monster Raving Loony Party and holds a British political record in having lost all 40 elections in which he stood.
His “day job” was as a musician, and his CV features collaborations with such luminaries as Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore and Keith Moon. In 1963, billed as Screaming Lord Sutch and the Savages, he released Jack the Ripper on the Decca label, a garage rock classic which has since been covered by The Horrors and The White Stripes, among others. Here he is strutting his stuff in the late 60s…

And here’s my Ace Cafe review (excellent veggie breakfast!) on TikTok…
@londonmusictours Legendary biker hangout The Ace Cafe – opened 1938, closed 1969… and revived 1997. Former transport cafe open 24 hours back in the day, it became popular with the “Ton-Up Boys” – bikers who pushed their machines to 200mph+. These dsys a hub for biker events and Rock’n’Roll revival gigs with hearty traditional food and a great welcome #popculture #bikers #foodie #events #gigs #london #lovelondon
