Adam writes… A double bill of eclectic musical walking tours for this Sunday 6th September. Join me for Musical Statues at 10.45am and The Music of Royal London at 2pm.
Musical Statues
10.45am Meets by the gift shop of Westminster Abbey
What is the sound of history? Its soundtrack? The tunes of glory that played at times of great victories? Do you know the music inspired the great and good of history?
Or to put it in a 21st century context… What would be the bangers on Florence Nightingale’s or Abe Lincoln’s Spotify Unwrapped?
More importantly… why didn’t Churchill like whistling?
In the old children’s game Musical Statues, when the music stops we all stop, too. On this walking tour it’s when the music STARTS that we’ll find some unexpected historical tales.
This epic and musically eclectic walking tour sets out to answer all these questions and more.
The Music of Royal London
2pm meets at Green Park Tube, park exit by the fountain
It starts with a bang – and an arrest (!) and a death (!) – with Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks and ends with a fanfare and a calypso at The Abbey.
The soundtrack to this great royal soap opera is provided by Mozart, Purcell, Handel, The Beatles, Louis Armstrong, Queen, Chopin and Madness – playing a heady mix of hymns, jazz, baroque, rock and showtunes.
Along the way we’ll unearth the strange secrets of the Queen Mother’s LP collection, the Queen who hated Handel as well as the music of the Changing of the Guard
London Music Tours
First time visitor to this site? Hello! My name’s Adam and I am an award-winning, qualified tour guide.
I specialise in music-themed guided tours here in London. I’ve been a tour guide for 20+ years and I offer a regular schedule of walking tours throughout the year. For the full, up-to-date calendar click HERE.
Private tours are always available, too. Use the form at the bottom of this post to get in touch to book a private tour.
I’m qualified as a Westminster Guide (with distinction), a former visiting lecturer in tour guiding at the University of Westminster and an ex-national newspaper arts journalist . In my spare time I play guitar and sing and buy too many records. Drop me a line anytime using the form below.
To join one of my non-music-themed walking tours, visit the London Walks website HERE.
